Is my garage door a torsion spring setup?
Torsion spring garage doors utilize a torsion shaft, which will be installed above your garage door, running to cable drums. The shafts themselves hold springs wrapped around them, which have the energy to assist in the garage door opener. Except they are not responsible for actually opening the garage door.

Extension spring garage doors vs. torsion spring doors

Extension spring garage doors are sometimes criticized for being unreliable. The torsion spring garage door system will utilize a shaft in connection with the cable drum, where the extension spring is directly attaching to the cable, or is hooked to the cable.
